Over the past week many media outlets have been aghast at how House Republicans have refused to ask for the resignation of NY-3 Republican George Santos, and even sat him on two House Committees. Voters need to realize that for today's GOP, the election of Santos is not a setback, but an enormous information warfare victory. The numerous false claims made by Santos, and even the fact that he may not even be a US Citizen, were never investigated by local media outlets, or political opponents campaigns. The Democratic Party, which as Lincoln Project member Rick Wilson has said repeatedly "is objectively bad at campaigning", didn't bother to do thorough opposition research, and focused excessively on the issue of abortion in the lead-up to the 2022 mid-terms, at the apparent expense of focusing on any other issue. To the GOP, this means that the combination of influence from Republican-friendly media outlets like FOX, OANN and Sinclair owned local news stations, combined with a general fecklessness and lack of investment by other local media outlets and Democratic campaign staff, means the GOP can basically nominate anyone to a position of power, without fear of anyone bothering to look into that candidates background.
It is incredibly naive to think that a power-hungry madman like Kevin McCarthy would ever speak out against Santos, and in time Santos will start getting more positive attention from other media outlets, and is likely to become a star within the party much like Marjorie Taylor-Greene. Republicans will do everything in their power to threaten the DOJ if there are any investigations into alleged links between Santos and Russian oligarchs, and will view the election of such a ridiculously corrupt individual, and the opposing party's inability to harm him in any way, as a positive sign for the GOPs plans of absolute political power, and the subjugation of the US Government to the interests and desires of a handful of the country's wealthiest families.
